According
to court papers, Mr Bob Craft says he legally changed his name to Mr Jack Ass
on 9th December 1997...
He
is suing Viacom International, the makers of the Jackass Movie.
In
the suit he says that MTV's Jackass aired on television in October 2001,
three years after he legally changed his name.
Then
the Jackass Movie came out October 2002.
Mr
Ass says:
"MTV
jackass, Johnny Knoxville / (P.J Clapp) is liable for injury to my reputation
that I have built and defamation to my character which I have worked so hard to
create."
He
is suing for $10mn for infringement of the Jack Ass and Andi Ass
names, cartoon characters that he says he owns.
Jack
says in the documents that he uses the character Jack and Andi Ass in a
road safety campaign, "BE A SMART ASS, NOT A DUMB ASS".
