Mother
Teresa died of a heart attack at the headquarters of the Missionaries of Charity
in Calcutta, she was 87. Mother Teresa had only in March stepped down from her
position as head of the order of nuns she had founded. She
was born Agnes Bojaxhiu in Skopje, Macedonia. She was revered by many around the
world as a living saint for her work for the dispossessed in the slums of Calcutta. But
her work had critics. Hindus suggested she was trying to convert the poor to Catholicism
by 'stealth'. Liberals were angered by her strict Catholic views of contraception
and abortion. |
