Today
was Black Tuesday, the biggest stock market crash in history. 16,410,030
shares were traded in a single day. The machinery used to compute sales could
not cope with the business. It
followed Black Monday a day earlier, and last week there was a Black Thursday.
It doesn't get much blacker than that... The
Great Depression followed. The
crash followed a long period of massive over-speculation in the US market. The
market had actually peaked in August. By
1932 stock prices were still only about 20% of their 1929 highs. |
