On
board were astronauts Charles Conrad Jr, Richard F Gordon Jr, and Alan L Bean.
They took off from Cape Canaveral, Florida. Disaster
almost struck 36 seconds after take off when a bolt of lightening hit the Saturn
5 launch rocket. It tripped circuit breakers which caused a power failure. Luckily,
the launch rocket continued and power was restored a couple of minutes later. Conrad
and Bean became the third and fourth people to walk on the Moon's surface, on
19th November. They undertook two moon walks and found the unmanned Surveyor 3
spacecraft. They
returned home safely on 24th November. |
