The
first ever feature length science fiction film to be screened in 3-D debuted in
Los Angeles on this day. It
was part of a drive to help cinemas in some way compete with the rise in popularity
of television. The
audience had to wear glasses with one red and one blue lense which, when coupled
with the movie being directed so that things ran into or seemingly poked out of
the screen, gave the impression that the screen was no longer flat... It
was one of those early 1950's fads which caused great excitement at the time but
never really caught on. |
