Jersey, USA: Megan Kanka, 7, was murdered by Jesse Timmendequas. He was convicted
on this day. The
case inspires Megan's Law, which requires that information about convicted sex
felons are made available to the public. Timmendequas
lived across the street from Megan. He had two previous convictions for sexual
assault. Megan's parents said that had they known about him they could have protected
their child. The
database is available to the public on a 900 number and on CD-ROM's in police
