It
was on this day that Pauline Reade, the first victim of the Moors Murderers (Ian
Brady and Myra Hindley), was abducted. Brady
and Hindley were lovers who killed for sexual kicks. They slashed their young
victims throats and then buried them on Dartmoor's desolate land. The
number of murders they committed is still not known as police have difficulty
in verifying the claims of Ian Brady. Their
two-year rein of terror ended when they tried to recruit Hindley's brother-in-law,
David Smith, who, when he witnessed one of the murders, decided to turn them in
to police. When
police searched Brady's apartment they found recordings of a girl, Leslie Ann
Downey, begging for her life before being killed. They
were jailed for life in 1966, neither would ever be released. |
