USA: Prohibition of Alcohol Passes Into Law | The
18th Amendment (the Prohibition Amendment) to the U.S. Constitution, which prohibited
the "manufacture, sale, or transportation of intoxicating liquors for beverage
purposes," becomes law. Nine
months later, Congress passes the Volstead Act, or National Prohibition Act, in
spite of President Woodrow Wilson's veto. The Volstead Act gave law enforcement
authorities powers to stop the distribution and manufacture of alcohol. However,
crime flourished with the authorities unable to enforce the law. Prohibition continued
until 1933 when the 21st Amendment to the Constitution was passed, repealing prohibition |

The 'Moon Maniac' Executed | Albert
Fish is executed at Sing Sing prison in New York. Fish could have killed 10 children,
he was executed for the murder of 12 year old Grace Budd. He
was a sadomasochist who, among other things, liked to insert needles into his
body. Those controlling the electric chair were concerned at the amount of metal
in his body at the time of execution, fearing he might short circuit the chair.
30 needles were found in his groin after his death. |
