American female aviator
Amelia Earhart leaves Wheeler Field in Honolulu, Hawaii this day, on a solo flight
to North America. Hawaiian
commercial interests had offered $10,000 to anyone completing the first flight.
She traveled the 2,400 miles in 18 hours, landing safely at Oakland Airport in
Oakland, California. Two
years after this success, she was lost somewhere in the South Pacific with copilot
Frederick J. Noonan, as they attempted to fly around the world. |
