Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and J.P. "The Big
Bopper" Richardson Killed In Plane Crash | The
stars were flying in a chartered Beechcraft Bonanza which crashed in Iowa soon
after takeoff. They were on their way from Mason City to Moorehead, Minnesota. The
plane had been chartered for the sole use of Holly's band, however Richardson,
28, had persuaded Waylon Jennings to give him his seat on the plane. Ritchie Valens,
17, won his seat in a coin toss. |

Silent Star Fatty Arbuckle Trial ends with hung Jury | Arbuckle
was accused of the manslaughter of starlet Virginia Rappe. Rappe died of a ruptured
bladder several days after the 350-pound Arbuckle allegedly sexually assaulted
her at a wild drinking party in San Francisco. Arbuckle
was eventually acquitted after a second hung jury, but his career was in ruins
and his films were banned. He
would eventually direct two movies and several short films under the pseudonym
William Goodrich. Arbuckle died in 1933, at the age of 46. |
