Clinton
was charged with lying under oath to a federal grand jury and obstructing justice,
on this day by the House of Representatives. Events
leading up to this date had been a media sensation, and a very public sex scandal
involving a 21 year-old intern, Monica Lewinsky's relationship with the president. At
the subsequent trial of President Clinton in the Senate, they voted to acquit
Bill Clinton of impeachment. Impeachment rulings must be carried by a vote of
at least two thirds of the Senate, that majority was not achieved. |
