1907 Peking to Paris Race Is Won By An Italian Prince...

Prince Borghese of Italy won the 8000 mile, 62 day race from Peking to Paris on this day.

During the race we had to contend with a brush fire, got stuck in a swamp, and was pulled over by a policeman in Belgium who seems to have refused to believe he was in a race and wasn't just speeding.

1948 Candid Camera ('Microphone') Debuts

It was actually called Candid Microphone when it started it's TV run on this day. It had been a successful radio show, hence the name.

The format of the show was to film unsuspecting people in comic situations.

1995 Netscape Floats on the Stock Market

Netscape had developed the most popular web browser at the time on the Internet (the Navigator). The IPO turned into the biggest such flotation in the stock market's history.

The stock floated at $28, and ended the first day of trading at $72, valuing the company at just under $2bn.
