1956 Elvis Has His First Number One

Heartbreak Hotel was Elvis Presley's first ever Number one hit on the Billboard Chart.

RCA had bought Presley's contract from Sun records for $35,000, plus a $5,000 advance for Presley.

Heartbreak Hotel was the product of one of his first recording sessions for RCA in Nashville.

The number one hit had been preceded by near hysteria when Presley appeared on Dorsey Brothers' Stage Show, on TV.
