1970 Apollo 13's Mission To The Moon Begins

Astronauts James A. Lovell, John L. Swigert, and Fred W. Haise took off from Cape Canaveral on this day.

Three days into the mission, however, an oxygen tank exploded and the mission had to be aborted.

The crew moved into the Landing Module and reorganized their mission in an attempt to make it back home.

After a very tense period they successfully returned, parachuting into the Pacific Ocean on April 17.

1954 The Most Boring Day Of The 20th Century?

According to Cambridge University educated scientist William Tunstall-Pedoe, 11th April 1954 was the most boring day in the twentieth century.

Using search algorithms on 300 million 'facts' the day was selected because the least happened on it than any other.

Nobody significant died on the day, and nobody important was born apart from Turkish academic Abdullah Atalar, who we had never heard of anyway. Sorry. [Source: telegraph.co.uk]
