Calamity Jane
Short plot summary

Butch girl Calamity Jane (Doris Day) wants, firstly, boy, Lieutenant Danny Gilmartin (Philip Carey), but then falls for Wild Bill Hickok (Howard Keel). She teams up with Katie Brown (played by Allyn Ann McLerie) to make her more feminine so she can get the second man she fancies.

What our panel of critics thought

"This musical has everything, including the cake with 'him and her' statues on top - but thankfully they do not sing."

"More men in women's clothes and women in mens clothes than in probably any movie before. Nice music though, and the weather is just peachy."

"Geeed'ctcher spores on'en get me to Chheeecargeee!"

"Sorry to be nit picky but shouldn't that be 'My second secret love's no secret anymore?'"

"The Windy City is mighty pretty when the dust storms die down."

"Back when men sang in that almost opera voice of deepness. You can almost hear the gravel in there! Bravisimo! Encore!"

Please tell me the ending

Calamity sends Katie Brown out of town when it is discovered that she is falling for Calamity's fancy bit, Lieutenant Danny Gilmartin...

But Calamity is not a hard hearted gal underneath those spores, no sir-EE, she rides out to brung her back and they all marry happily ever after. Calamity marries Hickok, Brown marries Gilmarten.

Quotable quotes (real)

"The windy city is mighty pretty."
