World Media Reaches Consensus on Pronunciation of Phuket, Thailand
(Fooket is the correct pronunciation)

Journalists across the globe have finally reached a consensus on the pronunciation of the Thai resort of Phuket which was swamped by the Indian Ocean Tsunami on the 26th December.

In non media circles the popular resort is widely referred to as "Fuckit", but this led to difficulties when the pronunciation slipped through into television broadcasts by accident.

A media specialist told this paper:

"Obviously you can't say Fuckit on television or radio even though that is the correct pronunciation, so the only option was to go for a made up pronunciation, 'fooket'."

Other pronunciations include: Fooquet, Foqet, Fokket.
