Lisbon,
Portugal. EURO 2004 Championships:
A
player from the England team has been put on the bench after
telling the manager that he is only willing to give 100%
in the next game.
This
was after team captain, David Beckham, told reporters that
everyone would give 110%.
The
player, who cannot be named for racial reasons, has since
accepted that he is a slacker and will have to try harder,
but doubts that he will be able to offer more than 105%
at most.
On
hearing the news, England player, Wayne Rooney, offered
to give 150% to bring up the average.
Did
you know?
Sports
people rarely do very well at maths so they don't realise
that 100% is the most anyone can ever give.
Back
in the 1970's players only had to give up to 75% to be
a success, but today anything less than 125% is looked
down on.
A
French player is said to have offered to give 300% in
the World Cup in 2002.
The
highest percent effort ever offered was 1579% - in a Sunday
Afternoon Pub League match in Surrey, England.
The
player was later found to have been lying.
