Tour
de France 2004 Stage 8
Lamballe > Quimper
The
first phase of the Tour de France ended in disaster last
night when over 70 competitors cycling shorts split during
the race.
Shocked
television viewers had to endure cyclist's bottoms clearly
visible, and at length. French television does not have
to pixellate bottoms out during television coverage, even
if shown before 9pm.
The
disaster comes amidst mounting concern that cycling shorts
have become too tight.

A
commentator told us:
Referees
refused to stop the contest even when it became clear that
the problem was widespread. A spokesman for the referees
said that the added embarrassment more than offset the benefits
of extra freedom around the buttocks.

Not
all those who witnessed the event were unhappy. A member
of The European Society of Nude Cycling told us he
was very pleased indeed:
