The National Hurricane Center advised last night that
there is a chance that Hurricane Richard could sweep across
the Atlantic later this election year.
Hurricanes
are named by the center each year to aid recognition and
to make great headlines.
They
are carefully chosen so as not to cause embarrassment, but
occasionally one slips through.

After
Hurricane Charley, the next hurricane is to be called Danielle.
Hurricane Richard is still 13 hurricanes off, so it might
never happen, but, if it does, it will be the first hurricane
to be named after a Vice President in history.
It
is not clear if Dick Cheney will be allowed to go to observe
the damage and offer support if Hurricane Richard is a bad
one.
A
democrat spokesman told us: "It is a shame the NHC
aren't naming it Hurricane Dick, but you can't have everything
I suppose."
The
National Hurricane Center told us they would never name
a hurricane 'Dick' as it would sound 'too rude' and could
bankrupt broadcasting organisations under new FCC rules.
[Note:
We haven't made the Richard hurricane thing up: Take a look
at the available names on the official naming web site here.]
